Dragon Boat Festival - Outstanding Success

Pink carnations floated along the East River, marking an end to the 10th Annual Pictou County Dragon Boat Festival.  The residents of Pictou County, have done it again, with over 35 teams participating, helping raise $150,000.00 to support the Women Alike Breast Cancer Survivors Group here in Pictou County, the Special Olympics in Northern Nova Scotia and the Pictou County Prostate Cancer Support Association.

The Premier was honoured that he was asked to participate in this year’s 10th Dragon Boat Festival.  He was very pleased to be part of the opening ceremonies and wishes to thank organizers and participants for their dedication to supporting local charitable organizations – a sentiment I too share.

This event has grown to be a staple in our community, and I look forward to attending it every year, there is such a focus on community, and healthy living and raising awareness on the various forms of cancer. The support received from the local businesses that not only enter a team, but who donate to this event, help continue to make it the success it is.

It goes without saying, that without the volunteers, this event would not even happen. Pictou County has once again shown the incredible impact that volunteers have on our province.Thank you to each and every one of you for donating your time.  Congratulations on another successful festival. I look forward to the races again next year!
