On November 6th, I took part in the 20th Annual Vince MacDonald Road Race, alongside 50 other participants. As anticipated, the great spirit of the people from the Town of Trenton was evident. The weather was bright and sunny and the event was very well organized. Runners from other parts of Nova Scotia came and participated in the race at Trenton Steeletown Park, they were warmly welcomed.
To mark the special occasion, athletes wore T-shirts commemorating the 20th year of the Vince MacDonald Memorial Race. After participants lined up, a moment of silence was observed honoring Vince MacDonald’s memory. Many runners finished the race with improved times over last year. Others received awards for their performance and the top winner of the day was Dave MacLellan, who finished with a time of 34:40.
A time of fellowship followed the race with Mayor Glen MacKinnon addressing those present with an inspiring message. Hot, nutritious food was served to all, with an opportunity to visit other tables and converse. Thank you to all the volunteers, runners and supporters who make this road race so memorable, without you this would not be possible. Thank you as well as to Karen Ackles and Bob MacEachern for taking the commemorating photos.
